demonstrations

Unless already familiar with modeling, it is a concept that may initially be quite abstract to some people, particularly as there are different types of models with many different applications (see the 'Technology' page to learn more).

This page contains links to videos showing our models 'in action', to help you understand what a model might look like and how one may potentially be used.

Accident & Emergency Model

This is a very simple model of a busy Accident & Emergency unit. It helps managers to identify when extra doctors are needed - the temperature rises as patients wait too long!

Look out for:

  • The patient bottleneck waiting for Triage
  • Angry patients turning red because they have been waiting too long
  • The thermometer rising as the main waiting area fills
  • Extra doctors arriving

Capacity Planning for Payment Processing

This model represents operations in a customer service and payment processing centre.

The centre had to address the question of how many people were required, and with what skill set, to meet a demand for different services that varied greatly at different times of the day.

The model animation represents the centre and the skills required at different times of the day. It identifies various KPIs and correlates these to staff utilisation.

Look for how the demand varies and the resource pool is utilised at different times of the day.
