Find out how modelling works

Working with in-house modelling teams

Paragon Simulation has a long history of working with specialist in-house modelling and management services teams dedicated to investigating and implementing new techniques for business improvement.

So why would a company with its own in-house team work with Paragon Simulation?

In house modellingThe Problems

  • Insufficient modelling resource
  • Aggressive schedules
  • Current tools inadequate for the job
  • Impartial advice required on the best modelling tools for the job
  • Need for an innovative approach to solve a difficult modelling problem
  • Spreadsheet modelling needs to be extended, improved, maintained and organised
  • Cost of developing new technology for a single project is prohibitive
  • Models need to be developed for non-expert users

The Solutions

  • Additional Paragon resource allows your team to concentrate on what they do best.
  • Paragon’s does nothing but modelling - this means that our engineers know how to produce working models very quicklyParagon’s experience means that we can quickly assess the most appropriate tools and technologies for the job
  • Paragon often provides innovative solutions to problems. This may be because our experience and technical capability means we know when and how to develop a new approach or when we can apply established techniques from one sector to another.
  • Paragon’s Information Manager environment can be used as an environment to organise existing models so that it is easier to set up alternative scenarios, manage data and present, organise and compare results.
  • Many elements of Paragon’s modelling technology can be applied to tasks at much lower cost than developing new

Examples

BNFLParagon has worked on several projects with British Nuclear Fuels Ltd.’s subsidiaries Sellafield Ltd and Nexia Solutions in-house modelling teams. BNFL, as you would imagine, have many highly competent engineers. So why did BNFL work so closely with Paragon on a major project?

  • Paragon introduced two significant innovations on the Sellafield Site Model:
    • Paragon were able to develop the idea of a high level aerial view model of the site where users could ‘click down’ onto individual facilities – a unique way of making the model of a highly complex facility accessible both at a high level and in detail.
    • Paragon developed a unique capability with feedback loops from results, so that by manipulating the output charts, the impact on upstream processes would be seen. This enabled the users to specify a result or constraint that was required for a stakeholder, and examine the impact on key planning issues.

The feedback from the project team has been excellent. The team was very pleased with the quality of the model & its output

Paragon has worked with many companies that previously have used “spreadsheet modelling’. A major financial services company is one such example:

  • Our client’s Business Intelligence Group realised that their existing spreadsheets were inadequate for the task and unsuitable for examining multiple sales and marketing planning scenarios across business units and geographies.
  • Paragon’s experience in providing models with an “Information Manager” modelling environment allowed their managers to concentrate on operating the model and examining, testing and understanding the options - not on learning how to operate complex spreadsheets.
